It’s the start of a new month, now what? For many of you this month includes NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), where you’ll aim to write 50,000 words in 30 days. For others, it’s just a regular writing month as you strive to reach your goals. Either way, you’ve got goals and you want to reach them.

Here are my top suggestions for making it happen.

1) Be flexible. This is the start of the holiday season for many, and while the three (or even four) day weekend provides an opportunity for more writing, it’s also a weekend where a lot of us spend time with family. So know that the world won’t end if you don’t make your goal. But with that in mind…

2) Craft a plan. How many words do you need to write each day? Do you need to work ahead so you can take a few days off? How are you going to achieve your goal?

3) Is your goal reasonable? The 50,000 word goal is only 1670 words a day, so it’s good to know. Is that a word count you can achieve? Have you done it before? If not, that’s okay, just be aware that it’s a stretch.

4) Find support. Surround yourself with people who can help you make it happen.

You’ve got this! I know you can do it.
