[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]When starting a new writing project do you a) think about how it will feel to have it finished and shared with the world? or b) worry about all the work that’s going to go into crafting this book and how it will be received? My farming relatives might say if you chose b you were putting the cart before the horse. After all, you’ve got to get the horse (book) out of the barn, brushed and harnessed, then attach the cart (behind the horse) before you can take your produce to market (your book to Amazon). And yet, in this widget-ized world of publishing that we find ourselves in with systems and processes, strategies and “must do” items, that’s exactly what most authors are doing these days. It’s killing their creativity.

It’s true that we can’t go back to the carefree days of yore, and honestly, I don’t know very many of us who have been published more than fifteen years who would want to. Yet, we can ensure that we’re opening doors to our creativity and our best, most soulful, work, rather than closing them.

Are you opening doors? Or do you close them before you even reach for the handle?

How can you tell? If you’re in the middle of writing a project, then you will no doubt be thinking of covers and editing, not to mention all the marketing. If you’re approaching all of this with, if not outright excitement, then a belief that it will make your book better, then you’re opening doors. Stressing about how much it will cost or if it will even pay off, that’s slamming those doors closed. Maybe even installing a deadbolt or a chain lock.

Think about how you can open doors to your creativity and your creative projects. You might feel odd doing so at first. It’s okay; we all feel a bit awkward as we start to change how we look at things. But imagine instead, of doors and opportunities closing, of them opening and what that will mean for your writing and for you personally.

Open those doors. Open them wide and let the sunshine in. After all, if you don’t open the door, how will anyone see you or your book?[/vc_column_text][vc_zigzag color=”orange” el_width=”70″][vc_column_text]Subscribe to our newsletter and receive our free gift, Social Media Header Magic.
